RFID Race Timing System for Marathons & Running Events
Automated chip timing, live participant tracking and instant results for marathons, runs and endurance events.
Network Toll Solution's RFID race timing system replaces manual stopwatch timing with UHF RFID chip timing built for marathons, fun runs, cycling events and endurance races. Each participant's bib carries an RFID tag; fixed antenna gates at the start line, finish line and any intermediate checkpoint read that tag the instant a runner passes, timestamping the crossing automatically and eliminating the queueing, missed splits and manual entry errors that come with barcode scanning or handheld timing.
Registration runs off the same RFID tag — scan it once to pull up a participant's record, with optional fields for name, category, unit and date of birth so age-group results calculate themselves. Race day operations run from a single dashboard: live tracking shows every checkpoint crossing as it happens, and results are ranked and published automatically the moment a runner crosses the finish gate, with bulk participant import and export to Excel for large-field events.

How It Works
A typical race-day setup needs only three things: RFID-tagged bibs, one or more antenna gates, and the timing software.
- Registration: each bib's RFID tag is scanned once to register a participant, with optional personal and category details for results and certificates.
- Checkpoint gates: fixed UHF antenna gates at the start, finish and any split point read every tag that passes, automatically and without the runner breaking stride.
- Live tracking: crossing times populate a live dashboard as the race runs, so organisers and spectators can follow progress in real time.
- Automatic results: finish-line crossings are timestamped and ranked instantly, ready for publishing or certificate generation without a manual results-compilation step.
Built for Race Day
The system is built to hold up under the conditions that actually break manual timing: large fields, multiple checkpoints, and outdoor deployment.
- Multi-checkpoint support: any number of timing gates can be deployed along a route, not just start and finish, so split times and course progress are tracked throughout.
- Handles large fields: built for events with hundreds to thousands of registered participants without slowing down at registration or at the finish gate.
- Bulk Excel import/export: participant lists can be uploaded in bulk ahead of race day and results exported the same way once the event is complete.
- Outdoor-ready hardware: antenna gates and readers are built to run unattended through a full race day in outdoor event conditions.
FAQs — RFID Race Timing System
How accurate is RFID race timing compared to manual or barcode timing?
Each tag is read the instant it crosses an antenna gate, giving a precise, automatic timestamp with no queueing and no manual entry — accurate down to the individual crossing, unlike stopwatch or barcode-scan timing where a busy finish line can cost accuracy.
Can it handle a large number of participants at once?
Yes — the antenna gates read multiple tags simultaneously as runners cross in a group, and bulk Excel import keeps registration fast even for events with thousands of entrants.
Do we need checkpoints in the middle of the course, or just start and finish?
Both are supported — antenna gates can be deployed at any number of points along the route, so you get intermediate split times and course-progress tracking in addition to the overall finish time.
Does the hardware work for outdoor events in the field, not just a stadium?
Yes — the antenna gates and readers are built to be set up on a course and run unattended for the full duration of an outdoor event, which is how the system is typically deployed.
